Sharpening Your Skates
Information to be added
The club provides services to check your skates. If you require any of these services then contact Dermot Shanahan.
1. New Skates
If you have purchased new skates get them checked to ensure that they conform to ISU regulations.
- Some new skates need the blade ends rounded off.
This service is provided free of charge by the club.
The radius refers to the gentle arc of the bottom edge of the skate blade from heel to toe.
The entire skate blade would not rest on a flat surface.
After a while of sharpening your skates this arc becomes flattened, and needs rounding again.
The club has a radius machine that can correct this.
This service is provided at a charge of £15 if the radius needs adjusting.
4. Annual Check
Once a year we recommend that you have your skates checked.
A log is kept by the club of when checks performed on skates.
