Race Structure
Racing Categories
- In short track speed skating, skaters race in age categories.
- Depending on the competition, the categories can sometimes also be split into Boys and Girls.
- The cut-off date for the age is 1st July.
- The race season usually begins in September.
The Categories:
Pee Wee 2 (Jun E) - Under 11’s
Pee Wee 1 (Jun D) - 11-12 yrs
Juvenile (Jun C) - 13-14 yrs
Junior B - 15-16 yrs
Junior A - 17-18 yrs
Senior 19-34
Masters 35 and over

Relays |
One lap of the race track is 111metres. Therefore 2 laps is 222m and so on.
Thus 500m = 4.5 laps, 1000m = 9 laps, 1500m = 13.5 laps Each Category also race over official distances. These are as follows: |
Relays are also skated.
There are 4 skaters per team and races are over the following distances: 2000m (18 laps) - Junior D 3000m (27 laps) - Men/Ladies 5000m (45 laps) - Men |
