FAQ

Who does the teaching?

All sessions are run by qualified speed skating coaches.
During training sections skaters are grouped depending on ability.

How fit do you have to be?

Anyone with a reasonable level of fitness can take part in skating.

How often does the club compete?

You can just attend the club evenings or participate in race days with other clubs. These take place on about a dozen days a year.
Training times

What is a race meet like?

Skaters race against others in their own age class (see link) over one or two distance. Depending on the number of entrants, skaters may compete in a heat or semifinal, and then a final at each distance with 4-6 skaters in each race.

The first 2 skaters in each race would qualify for the A races in the next round, and the next 2 the B races. The rest are in the C races.
Thus all skaters get to skate in each round.

When can a beginner race in a Club meet?

When the NIRC host a competition there are novice races where Nottingham's beginners can take part. The coach will advise if you have reached a suitable level.
